I am really surprised that so many fans here, and over at Monster Island News, have come forward to say how much they like both the new Doctor and these new episodes.

As a long time Doctor Who fan (since the late 70s) I really find the new episodes bland, and Matt Smith’s Doctor very uninteresting.

When you watch the older episodes with Eccleston and Tennant (or Tom Baker for that matter), then watch the new ones, you really get a let down. The show has taken a step back.

That’s not to say that I think that the show is terrible, it has just gone from an excellent program to a good one.

Exciting to see these guys back, but I have to call shenanigans on saying the loss of RTD has made the series stale. Tennet will be missed, but RTD wore out his welcome awhile back. The man is a phenomenal producer, but the most god-awful writer imaginable. Moffat is a much more capable writer and has shown he has a good eye for dramatic stories from other creators as well.

Just a shame the toy makers forced new Daleks on him…
