There was a really good sci-fi story from a Russian author back in Stalin’s day who wrote about mermaids being a genetic creation too.

HOWEVER, the crap that was on the TV was just a hokey over extended “Lost Tapes” episode. What ticked me about it was the fact that the producers tried to put it forth as a “documentary” and only had one line at the end that said, “oh this is just all made up.”
