As mentioned on previous Cryptomundos this is a description of my living room, even down to the crocodile although there was much discussion as to whether it should be hanging feet up or feet down!

I had alwayd described my preferred decorative style as a cross between the home of a time-traveller and an alchemist, but perhaps wunderkammer sums it up far better. I recently purchased a small china cabinet to house my more unusual items, which my wife refers to collectively as "dead things." Since her involvement in my life, my home as wunderkammer has suffered somewhat, and this was felt as a solution- my icky things safely locked away where there was no risk of her accidentally touching them. Unfortunately, in our current house, the only place to put the cabinet is in the front hallway, and she is equally adamant that the first thing you see when you walk in our home is not a bunch of bones and feathers. I assure you, our next house will have a rightful place for my wunderkammer. For now, I content myself on what I am able to get away with- my collections of gargoyles, Japanese netsuke, and swords, among other things.

I believe the plurtal of "Wunderkammer" is "Wunderkammeren", but I only got top grades in HIGH SCHOOL German, and that was AGES ago!
      Best wishes, Dale D.

PS Any of the cryptozoology groups is a Wunderkammer. Loren's house certainly is, from his description.

I am afraid my apartment is already a "wunderkammer" - I am forced to collect weirdnesses by something indescribable. I scour flea markets, small stores, and whatever.

Currently, I am in the process of acquiring a 10th century gaol door - which, of course, will replace the entrance to my bedroom.

Oh, no! I see another collection looming in my future! I think I will start my own little Wunderkammer. I have the cabinet, and can start the collection with my 'Mystery Fish' postcard. Because of financial problems I have had to seriously downsize my other collections. This new collection shouldn't have as many acquisitions (due to rarity) and there will be lots of time between finding things, so will be easier on the budget. I wonder if I still have those old bookends I bought long ago, decorated with some kind of bones?

Fascinating! Looking up from my screen to the objects arrayed on my desk's many shelves, then turning to survey the rest of my study and the rooms beyond, it occurs to me that many Cryptomundists, also being of curious and acquisitive nature, are probably surrounded by the makings of their own private Wunderkammer.
