Bigfoot, Chessie, Iraq, and Larry Craig?

Posted by: Loren Coleman on September 7th, 2007

It’s not often that Bigfoot, Chessie, and I get thrown in with President Bush, Iraq, and Larry Craig, thank goodness, but it happened this week to me in Virginia.

‘The New Dominion Show’ is on the air

The fall 2007 (and 2008 and 2009 elections), President Bush’s secret jaunt to Iraq and Chessie and Bigfoot.
That and more this week on “The New Dominion Show.”
(Teaser: Chris gives his prognostication on what Mark Warner will do next week in the final segment.)
Joining us this week:
- Brian Moran, the Democratic Caucus chair in the House of Delegates and a presumed statewide candidate in the 2009 state-election cycle.
- New Dominion columnist W.R. Marshall, who has a lot to say on the president’s trip to Iraq and the Larry Craig quasi-resignation.
- Loren Coleman, a cryptozoologist and coauthor of Weird Virginia, who gives insight into Bigfoot and Chessie sightings in Virginia.

Chessie was solved, or was it? Purported to be the Wandering Manatee.

No, no, this is caused by the confusion occurring due to the use of the name for two different things.

The Sea Serpent “Chessie” has been sighted, on and off, since the 1960s, with an increased wave of encounters in the 1970s.

Someone in the media decided more recently to call an out-of-place (wandering) manatee by the name “Chessie.”

One has nothing to do with the other, and they are described very differently too, if anyone has any doubts.
