For sheer comedic relief, #9 has to be the winner. For someone
(Scott Marlowe) to actually contact a prosecutor about the 'massacre' is beyond funny!!!

With his running 'Skunk ape hunts' complete with a man in an ape suit, to contacting prosecutors (in the wrong county) about a bigfoot massacre, to his associations with T Biscardi, to his running 'cryptozoology' courses from his home, I think he takes the cake for comedic relief. The GA boys did entertain for a time, but once proven a hoax quickly faded. Somewhere out there are probably STILL people who believe in the bigfoot massacre! Too funny!

"I know that the 'Georgia-freezer-bigfoot' generated the most attention in 2008, but does it really have to be the #1 story?"

I am not about to lie about the truth. It was what it was.

There was not just a negative side to it, for many people have commented to me that they only began to read about the *facts* about Bigfoot or only found Cryptomundo or such-and-such a Bigfoot website after the hoax story was mentioned in the media last summer.

The Colorado Springs lion is not a hugely important story in itself, but it rates inclusion as a good example of how many animal-related mysteries don't have satisfactory solutions. It could have been a big Chow dog, but no one ever reported such a valuable animal lost, no one ever caught such a dog or reported seeing one to animal control, and no one has ever reported seeing the "lion" again. It does make me wonder about the possibility of a lion kept illegally that slipped out and was either recaptured or shot by its owner.

OK, I know that the "Georgia-freezer-bigfoot" generated the most attention in 2008, but does it really have to be the #1 story? It kind of plays this into the hands of hoaxsters (in a general sense).

So even though the story never stood a chance under the slightest scrutiny, in a couple of years , when somebody does a review of the decade: "The biggest cryptozoo story of 2008 was ..."

We are all aiding and abetting them in having their "place in history" (which may very well be the the primary motivation of these people).

Wow! This certainly was some year! Filled with cryptid-related events! But with regards to the "Georgia hoax", will those two men be charged with any form of fraud? Their attempt was pathetic. Many people probably think that this hoax reflects back upon the Patterson/Gimlin Footage, but it actually does not. These two men accepted money for their hoax. Gimlin did not.

It's a shame that we all forgot #9 in the wake of Beavis and Butt-Head's antics. That was a more interesting story in my opinion.
