Please. The area between San Antonio and Austin is heavily populated. Fredericksburg is in the heart of Texas' wine country and is a huge tourist destination, hardly the empty countryside suggested in this description. LBJ's ranch and Enchanted Rock State Park are also in the area, both of which draw thousands of tourists each year. San Marcos, halfway between San Antonio and Austin, is a mid-sized college town and just south of there, New Braunfels is the hub for the thousands of people floating in the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. I have been to this area literally dozens of times, am an ecologist and a birder with 285 species on my lifelist, and the idea of some huge bird living there, undetected except for an occasional sighting, is absolutely ridiculous.

It's been awhile since a "Thunderbird" sighting. Though this was nearly 3 years ago, it was an interesting read. I would love to see a sketch. I think there are large birds like this in existence, but once again... no proof! UGH
