Polish Snow Leopard Update

Posted by: Loren Coleman on April 10th, 2009

The interesting story of the so-called “snow leopard” being sighted in Poland can be enhanced with new information.

R. H. from Braunschweig, Germany shares this:

If you would like to see the mobile phone movie showing the “Polish leopard” you find it here.

It is a little better than the blob-cats from the UK. To me it really looks like a snow leopard because of the thick tail.

The video does appear to show the same kind of fluffy tail to be found in the snow leopard, although the size of the feline is difficult to determine (as always).

    Greetings All!
Looks like a big house cat in the video to me. Moves like a kitty, not a leopard, especially the front feet. It would be nice to know if this is the original footage, or how blown up it is, because to get any kind of shot of a cat on a “mobile phone” you would have to be pretty close. At least close enough for a positive ID by eye alone! But there must still be some sort of ABC, I don’t think a house kitty took out those pigs!

According to the video from Reuters it has definitely been identified as a snow leopard.

That looks like a house cat or maybe a European wild cat. I don’t trust Reuters in these matters.

Um..on most mobile phones you can zoom in to take a video. So you don’t necessarily have to be right next to something to get a decent video of it.

It did look like a snow leopard to me though. Of course, the only snow leopards I’ve seen in person are at our local zoo. But still, there appear to be significant differences between the animal in the video and a house cat.
