I once worked in Animal Care at Sea World in Orlando. On more than one occasion ‘Shamu’ – which was really a 20-ft. bull orca known as ‘Ramu’ would display his six-foot pink erection during the show, much to the embarrasment of the training staff. ‘Moby’ a pilot whale at Florida’s Marineland was also known to do the same. I believe that what people are seeing on the St. John’s River are male manatees displaying their manliness when they roll over at the surface.

I had a sighting of a huge whale snake like creature in the st johns river that still haunts me till this day

I am reading WAKE OF THE LAKE MONSTER right now and I have to say, as much as I enjoyed the other books in the Cryptids Trilogy, this is some of the best writing Dallas has done, espeically in terms of richness of story and character evolution.

I just read the chapter where he identifies what the Alty is and it is a great choice. I Googled it for more information and really felt he hit it dead-on.

If you want a great read, pick it up!

Well, since the quotation’s source is from a cryptofiction writer, if not a typo, perhaps it is a form of literary license to set the stage for his novel?

“The Altamaha is home to over 50,000 species of migratory and non-migratory birds”-that has to be a typo. As far as I know, there aren’t even 50,000 bird species (at least known ones) in the entire world! Maybe he meant “the Altamaha is home to over 500 species”, but even that is a pretty high number for one region.
