Personally, I prefer as my primary source, the database of Birdlife International. The date of the last sightings in the wild is de facto 1949.
Clearly, if someone prefers to give credit to a “researcher” as Nugent is free to do so.

Well, actually, one must be careful about taking secondary sources that are quoting Wikipedia as their primary source too seriously. If you take Nugent’s and Thorns’ material to heart, the “last seen in the wild” dates would be much more recently that the 1940s.
