New Asian Warbler

Posted by: Loren Coleman on December 18th, 2009

A Limestone leaf warbler (Phylloscopus calciatilis) is shown, which was caught at Thai An Commune, Quan Ba district, Ha Giang Province, East Tonkin, Vietnam on June 1, 2008. This new species of warbler was discovered in the forests of Vietnam and Laos, and announced for 2009.

First sighted in 1994, the small green and yellow bird was thought to be a different, similar-looking species surviving 1000 km from its normal range.Read the Ibis paper.

  1. Alton Higgins responds:

The bird looks more like a vireo than a warbler.
