He said that all of these state game commissions/management know the cats are out there. The problem is that if they substantiate claims they then not only put the cats at risk but they have to change game management completely. They would also have to suddenly deal with preservation groups that will claim the cats are endangered. He said the cats are better off not being acknowledged and would have a much better chance of surviving and thriving if most people thought they didn't exist. Although it is getting harder and harder to dispel these claims as more and more people are getting good evidence and then putting it right on the internet.
