Isn’t this the same area the Monster Quest episode with the possible mutilated manatee and/or cryptid seals? The background looked very similar to me, and when I googled “Lake Worth Lagoon Monster Quest,” the first result is from a local paper’s story on that episode.

I think on that episode, they said the exact location was being kept secret to protect the creatures.

To be honest, I do not see how this is even news worthy. There are literally hundreds of known species that display that type of behavior and the majority of those are fish. When I viewed the video I not in impressed. It’s a fish. Of course that is based upon my experiences and is simply my opinion.

I’ve seen smaller rays swimming in the Gulf and the wakes seem similar. I think these gentleman were excepting to see a fin or back and when they didn’t it was perplexing to them. And maybe it is unusual for really big rays to come in that close, adding to the mystery. I didn’t see the wildlife guy leaning so much to “its an unknown animal” explanation as much as saying it was hard to tell from this photo evidence. I wonder if he even said “its probably a ray” and that got clipped from the newscast. The press is prone to do that on filler pieces to add to the mystery and excitement.

Having lived most of my life near the sea my first interpretation was rays. Take a good look at 1:50 in the video is that not a ray “flying” out of the water?

I agree with the ‘ray’ interpretation. To me it appears like it could be a “flock” of 3 – 4 rays “flying” in a triangular pattern. Whatever it is it is insensitive to boat engine noise.

A commenter on this website suggested a large ray, and that might be right. Anything that gets people looking at the seas and wondering, though, has a good side. And we don’t KNOW it’s a ray….

Wow, what a non-story. All we see are some wakes in the water. There’s any number of known animals it could be. This is like the story not too long ago with police videoing a mangy dog running down the road and calling it a Chupacabra. Moving on.

I dunno. It’s weird. My first thought would be that it’s just a wake, but you’d think someone called “Lagoon Keepers” would be able to tell if it’s a boat wake.

I hope it turn out to be something new!
