could it have been someone's pet dog of extreme size? I remember doing some yard work in college and a dog came over to check me out, fortunately it was really laid back because that thing was huge! Then again, I guess no matter size, anyone should know a dog when they see one. I just wonder something of this sort only because he was able to change course without the creature taking him down. you really have to be careful with most predatory felines when you try to just change course, they think you are trying to "run".

Do we have any better descriptions than brown color, long neck and turned up tail?
Was this a cryptid canine of some sort? Feline? While I love reading these old news accounts I'm often frustrated by the lack of detailed description.
