Bob Michaels- I didn't say the Death Worm was a myth. I said that some of the folklore was probably based on some sort of real creature. The myth comment was in response to springheeledjack's comment. The Mongolian Death Worm is one of my all time favorite cryptids and there is every possibility that it is out there. What it is exactly is not known, and there are many stories attributing some pretty far out powers to it, but like I say, there is no reason why there couldn't be a creature that these stories revolve around. It's going to be a hard one to find considering the harsh habitat it supposedly resides in.

Mystery Man, the death worm is no myth, plenty of factual evidence. an early reference as noted by Dr Karl Shuker in his " BEASTS THAT HIDE FROM", can be found in the Book on the trail of Ancient Man (1926) by Roy Chapman Andrews, famous American Paleontologist. The book is bout the American Museum of Natural History's 1922 expedition to the Gobi in search of Dinosaur fossils.

When he had signed the necessary permits, the Mongoloian Premier asked Andrews if he capture a specimen of ALLERGORHAI-HORHAI.

Sprindheeledjack- I agree that this cryptid has a whole lot of things surrounding it that seem to point to it as being a mythical creature. However, a lot of very real animals are seeped in myth by the indigenous people. In Japan, there are a lot of known animals that have so many mythical properties ascosiated with them, that you would think they were pure folklore if you didn't know they existed. I feel that although the Mongolian Death Worm may not embody all of the abilities that it is said to have, there could very well be an undiscovered large skink, snake, or some sort of desert worm that serves as the basis for all the stories. Some of the myths revolve around a grain of truth.

Tremors 1 rocked. Perfect example of why to leave a good movie alone.

I wish I had the money and the youth and energy to chase my dreams like that! Or not...

Rock, paper scissors to see who has to go find the death worm next.

The death worm is one of those oddities that it is hard to sift out myth/stories from fact. And I admit, I've got a lot of admiration for the guy, because hanging out in the Gobi and then going back twice more is tougher than I am!

MrInspector, you are not alone. The first TREMORS is a classic monster movie in my opinion. It was scary, exciting, and funny with quirky characters. I love that movie.

Persistence will payoff. I Hope that Ivan Mackerle will locate the death worm. It could be the Biggest Amphisbaenid in the world (they are worm lizards with 140 known species). Slender, limbless burrowing vertebrates that look like earthworms, the identity is favored by Czech Cryptozoologist Jaroslav Mares. But we won't know, until a specimen is obtained.
