I agree with brineblank - the Maine Mutant was very obviously a dog from first inspection of the pictures and did not need DNA testing to prove it so.

I do understand the testing made it impossible for silly people to say otherwise, which, in my opinion, was its main value.

The press has NO memory. The press is an IDIOT. The press has done more disservice to the public than ten zillion hoaxers.

Before I get flamed for defending hoaxers, I'm NOT.

There. I feel better now.

I hope the Turner mystery beast didn't hurt your cause. It was educational in ways for a lot of people, a downright pain in the butt for others. I'm thinking about getting a bumper sticker stating: "It was a dog" just so people will stop asking me.

Remember the stink that was raised about the roadkill? It was obvious it was a dog from the get-go and many on the sidelines tried to turn it into something sensational. Now we some of the ramifications. We went to a seminar in WV on wolves and hybrids and there were several women that claimed there were wolves running around their area and that their livestock was being harmed/killed. When the guy that kept wolves asked for a description they gave obvious details that pointed out they were not wolves. The gentleman explained the physical differences and the women CHANGED their descriptions to match that of wolves and became almost hostile that they were being called 'liars' (even though that wasn't the case at all). Turns out their wolves were later hit by a car and ended up being mutts.

Just goes to show that sometimes we take the obvious and so much desire the exotic we refuse to see the truth (WV mystery pix anyone?). And as cryptid fans we can hurt our own cause for credibility.
