Well, it's been over a month since my previous comment and I have to say this show is really crappy. At first it was more of an entertainment to chuckle with but now I just get annoyed when I watch it. *sigh*

I think that Animal Planet is having a hard time competing with History Channel's Monster Quest and Sci Fi Channel's Destination Truth. This is their sad attempt at finding mythological creatures.

Don't get me wrong I believe in Bigfoot, Chupacabra, Loch Ness Monster, and others. The stories have to come from somewhere! There are people who believe that humans evolved from salamanders but they don't believe in these creatures. If people can believe in aliens flying in little space ships in Universes beyond our reach, why is it so hard for them to wrap their minds around a 9ft humanoid covered in hair roaming around our forests? Is it because a real living creature or carcass has been found? Well if they are like any human being or primate I am pretty sure they have figured out how to use tools. Maybe they bury their dead. Maybe the dead creatures are eaten by other forest animals.

If you really want to get into conspiracy theories maybe someone has found one of these said mythological creatures and the government confiscated it and are holding it in Area 51.

Who knows if these creatures really exist? All we can do is wait. Slowly but surely, one by one they will start to emerge from there hiding places.

"The Lost Tapes" is just too stupid to watch. Animal Planet hopefully, will soon realize how much credibility they are losing, airing garbage like that, and pull the show. At least "Blair Witch" was plausible at the time if only for the fact that it had never been done before, but this show (Lost Tapes) is a blatant rip off!

I managed to watch the "Monster of Monterey" portion and had to delete it from my TiVo. Absolute junk in my opinion.

I agree that they over-play the monster angle, but I do like the entertainment value of the show, it's kind of a suspenseful show and mildly entertaining. I may keep it on my TiVo list, I may not. We'll see...

The entire show is what might happen if these creatures did exist.

I'm currently watching it, and I must say the startle effect of this show is rather good.

They said that the Monster of Monterey is a Plesiosaurs that somehow survived the mass extinction.

The Chupacabra episode is....interesting the say the least.

Overall, some good entertainment. But it tends to over-dramatize possible events. (the Chupacabra episode is a excellent example, such as why did the Border Patrol not leave as soon as they found no other survivors?)

In my opinion, the show was entertaining in the sense that it was fictional. It might just be me, but I like shaky-home-camera effect whether or not it's fact or fiction. And besides, if a hunter got killed by sasquatch, the news would be all over it. So I don't think they tried to make it too real. Just enough for the story.

I watched the ones in October, and was not particularly impressed. They are basically 'dramatizations' or fictional stories 'inspired' by accounts of encounters. They are shot in a neo-documentary style akin to the Blair Witch type films, but are not recreations of any actual incidents or reports.

hmmmm.... Sounds like crap, but it's probably better than that other show, "the secret saturdays" where they acted as though cryptids were completely different from normal animals and were "magic" or something...cant believe it hasn't been canceled yet, but I'm praying.

The new show though, Lost Tapes, will still probably be better.

And its by animal planet, so they might even get a single fact or two right.

yeah, right
