oddly, i got to know the producer of the THE BLOB and many, many other sf/horror films a few years back when i still lived in Hollywood.

'Mr. Jack' Harris is a truly nice gentleman and he was still active in the biz though he was topping 90!

he had, sadly, just learned of the death of the director of THE BLOB the day before we met, and was deeply touched. i can't help but feel badly for Mr. Jack as i think of him reading this entry. ;(

thanks, Loren, for the update, though i now have to send a condolence to Mr. Jack, too!

rest in peace, Kay Linaker! your contribution(s) will live on in film history!

I love that film! These direct ties to the wonderfully naive "silver" days of the cinema are becoming fewer. Inevitable...but a real shame.

McQueen hated admitting he was in it, but I always felt that had I been him (alas, to be that cool) I would have worn it like a badge of honor. The simple charm of these movies is so RARELY matched today and I know I will share classics like this with my daughter when she's just a wee bit older (she's 6).

Godspeed to Kay!
