Henriksen Handles Bigfoot (Again)

Posted by: Loren Coleman on August 14th, 2006

Devil on the Mountain

Over at Dread Central, the Foywonder mentions a new movie to be screened in September:

That Lance Henriksen must really dig Bigfoot. Every time you turn around ol’ Lance is turning up in a Sasquatch movie. He already survived Sasquatch, wasn’t so lucky in Abominable, and now he’s bracing for a rubber match with Bigfoot in Devil on the Mountain.

The action happens in the Arizona mountains. Will Lance Henriksen make it out alive?

One thing is for certain, Lance Henriksen deserves enshrinement in the Sasquatch Cryptofiction Cinema Hall of Fame some day!

By the way, the movie’s original title has been changed from Devil on the Mountain to Sasquatch Mountain.

The Sci-Fi Channel premiere of Sasquatch Mountain is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2006, at 9 Eastern/8 Central with a midnight repeat to follow and another replay the following Wednesday night also at 9 Eastern/8 Central.

Visit Dread Central for more details on the motion picture, who else is starring in it, and who is directing it.

It should be noted that Lance Henriksen worked with Dan Callahan (who played "C.J." in The Mothman Prophecies) in a movie called Madhouse in 2004. That is one degree of separation from

Mothman.

Thanks to Jason Pritchett for notice of this new movie and the note on Lance Henriksen’s "Mothman Degrees of Separation." But as Jason noted, working with Lance’s links is easy as he’s a plebeian version of Kevin Bacon.

I can’t get enoough of cheesy Bigfoot and chupacabra flicks!

  2. twblack responds:

I always liked him as an actor. The shown on Fox he had for a couple seasons was a good one “Millennium”. And of course Alien saga. Can’t wait to see this film.

  3. shovethenos responds:

Surprisingly, even though I’m interested in cryptozoology and believe in the possible existence of some cryptids I don’t like the movies about them. Maybe I’m too much of a realist.

  4. Ouroborus Jay responds:

    More Lance Henriksen please.

  5. harleyb responds:

Lance Henriksen rules! Bring on the crypto-related movies! What!

  6. dave61 responds:

When Bigfoot goes to Hollywood, I envision it will be satired like “Harry and the Hendersens.”

  7. mooppoint responds:

    twblack,

I totally agree. “Millenium” was a really great, smart program, and I was surprised it didn’t last any longer than it did.

He is a very good actor, and “Alien” stands as one of the great sci-fi/horror pics of all time, in my opinion.

As for this latest flick, anytime I see the phrase “Sci-Fi Channel” and “premiere” used in the same paragraph, I have a natural tendency to … back … away … slowly.

But what the hey; I’ll probably try to watch it because Henriksen appears in it.

    So I’m a hypocrite …

  8. Dan Spencer responds:

I love Lance and I love bigfoot movies. The worse the movie the better. SciFi recently had on “Abominable”. Awful movie, loved it. I’ll be sure to catch this new one.

Back when I was a youth in the late-seventies – early eighties I watched a bigfoot movie on the local Saturday afternoon creature feature. It was a faux documentery about a Bigfoot expedition. Anyone know the title of the movie and if it’s available on netflix?

  9. Craig Woolheater responds:

    Dan,

The name of the movie you seek is Sasquatch: the Legend of Bigfoot.

It is one of the 3 films on the DVD Sasquatch Horror Collection. The DVD is available on Netflix. They have quite a selection of Sasquatch and Bigfoot videos.

The Sasquatch Horror Collection is also available on Amazon.com, as well as the followup DVD, Bigfoot Terror. Both of these videos were mentioned previously here on Cryptomundo.

  10. Dan Spencer responds:

Thanks Craig I will check it out

  11. harleyb responds:

B-movies and cheezy movies rule, because you already know what to expect, the cheeziness!

  12. MountainDevil responds:

This one should be a little different than the past Hollywood Bigfoot flicks. Made independent of the Sci Fi channel by a group of “real” filmmakers and not a bunch of suits. There is some effort to give Sas some humanity and still maintain the bloodshed required for the sales. If you read some of the interviews with actor/writer Michael Worth he said he has always followed Bigfoot (even reading some of Loren’s books for research) and wants to maintain the actual aura of Sas in the end (ala the “Patterson Footage” as he puts it) instead of some vicious humanoid just butchering people. He and director Monroe seem to want to give the big guy new life.

There was a screening of some sequences earlier in the year at a Sci Fi con and the production value looks great (not B-like) and the action and characters seem well above average for that channel.

  13. Unknown Primate responds:

    Greetings everyone…
This is my first post, though not very profound. I’ve been enjoying cryptomundo since nearly it’s beginning.

Anyway, I believe Mr. Henriksen was the narrator for an expose’ documentary where they “supposedly” debunked Patty and other phenomena they considered myths.

Although he was probably just doing his job (and he sounded very convincing!), I wonder what he truly thinks of Bigfoot.

    Thanks for listening…
