Went to see Peter Jackson’s incredible film King Kong. I’m not going to spoil it for anyone but there’s an inside humorous reference to a cryptozoological creature before King Kong is actually encountered by most of his pursuers.
Someone had repeated to me that this cryptid was a recent beast (thus out of place in King Kong), as it turns out incorrectly. I was happy to see that King Kong quite correctly mentions a contemporary (1930s) cryptid.
See if you can pick it out.

Yep. I recognized it, but I won’t spoil it
Out of place but not out of time.
That was a great quote, and it was ironic who said it too…
Just got back from seeing the movie, and I did spot the cryptozoological reference. I and the audience laughed appreciably at that joke too.
