No one would be dumb enough to do that these days. Do you know the liability you would be assuming if someone just "claimed" to be injured by "your" escaped vampire? That's why people don't report it when their exotics escape. But I guess that was a different time. This wasn't yet "litigation nation."

We've got some weird creatures in Australia (and some are of the two-legged variety, and I don't mean Yowies) but I've never heard of this one! I'll ask the Ring-Tailed Possum that seems to have taken up permanent residence (builds a nest of leaves in anything that's available) on my verandah if he/she knows anything.

Well that clears things up. The Jersey Devil is half horse, half kangaroo, and half bat, and it comes from Australia. Should have known the Australians had something to do with this, I saw ththe yahoo yowee on Scooby Doo and knew this was possible. It is also not surprising that our friends in Europe sent it our way to destroy the peace in New Jersey. I mean without this creature their would be no excitement in Jersey, baring Atlantic City. As far as this postcard, well that looks like my brothers dog that took second in the World's Ugliest Dog contest, so I cannot be sure on that. However, One could suppose that the Australian Vampire Devil may have mated with an owl, hawk, or possibly bigfoot to pass on his genetic superiority to a new generation. That brings the new total up to 4 halfs making him twice the cryptid the rest of them are.
