But then how much do we know?

FWIW, holding the wings in close to the body at some point of the flap cycle as shown in the Tanner photo is pretty characteristic of woodpeckers. If a “duck flap” was presumed, I’d guess it an incorrect presumption.

And if we’re incorrect about that, there might be other things, like extinction, we don’t have right either.
