When I ask booksellers today if they have a “cryptozoology section,” they often say “yes,” and always know what I’m talking about. We have Dr. Heuvelmans to thank for that. The very sight of the cover of his seminal On the Track of Unknown Animals is enough to send us amateur cryptozoologists into childhood ecstasy. I missed meeting him in New York in the early 80s, and it’s one of the regrets of my life.

Dr. Heuvelmans, wherever you are, know that you are missed, and yes, loved.
