Well, religion in general has a lot to answer for, but I was genuinely curious as to what interest the LDS church would have in cryptids. You statement really confused me, not offended.

And you're right. Mormons aren't strict creationists, although like any group they have their fair share of fundamentalist idiots. It's good to see the open-minded folks taking the point, as in the above article.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend and unless I'm mistaken I believe the "LDS" takes a figurative view of the biblical creation story - by "certain groups" I wasn't referring to Mormons per se.
I do get jumpy, though, when any religious group is mentioned in conjuction with cryptids - again, not to offend but it's my opinion that proponents of "special creationism" within any number of broader religious organizations have set back the credibility of real cryptozoological research by appropriating it and modifying it as proof of their religious beliefs.
It seems to me that Kenneth Ham's dioramas of people and dinosaurs having a tea party 6000 years ago make the idea that anything big and mysterious is lurking about these days seem laughable, and not worthy of serious investigation.

Having been raised Mormon, I'm a little perplexed by your implications, Muskrat. What "vested and suspect interest in cryptids" does the LDS church have?

The LDS church has its problems, but its membership is pretty open-minded overall about science.

Sorry everyone, but I'm a bit puzzled by the glowing praise of our Mormon friends.
We are all aware of certain religious groups' vested and suspect interest in cryptids, which I think should be taken into account.
