GI Joe: Search for the Sasquatch

For the long Independence Day weekend, how about some light matters to enjoy?
Sean Whitley, writer/director of Southern Fried Bigfoot, has run across a couple new items of interest.
The first is a limited edition “Search for the Sasquatch” set (see above). It was an exclusive item sold at the Official GI Joe Convention held in Dallas, Texas, which Sean and his brother attended last weekend.
At $270.00 (that’s not a typo), the set was too expensive for Sean, but he snapped some pictures he wanted to share with Cryptomundians.

The second item (below) is a custom-made diorama called “Escape from the Sasquatch,” which was also on display at the convention.
In line with the theme of G.I. Joe, I have attached images of the recent and older (1973) versions of G.I. Joe’s “Search for the Abominable Snowman” items.
Ah, the new….it is technically called the “Search for the Yeti”:

This is one of the culturally important items shown at locations like Henry Stokes’ “I Love Yeti” site, as in this photo above.
The “white Abominable Snowman” (looking more like an albino gorilla) is infrequently found alone on eBay, unfortunately slightly yellowed with age, more often than not. Such are the hazards to this replica Yeti from too many adventures with GI Joe out in the backyard on holiday weekends, I suppose.

In an update to an entry linked to this posting, David Pescovitz at Boing Boing notes that one of his comment makers has pointed out that the “G.I. Joe Adventure Team has the exact same logo as the Appalachian Trail. How odd.”

While the International Cryptozoology Museum has an individual 1973 Abominable Snowman figurine and the “Search for the Yeti” item, it does not have for exhibit the historically significant complete “Search for the Abominable Snowman” set or the new “Search for the Sasquatch” set. An additional fund-raising effort would have had to occur for those to be obtained.

The stand-alone G.I. Joe Sasquatch can be had for slightly over $100 on eBay, it seems.
