Does this not give one hope for sasquatch and many others? Think about it, the natives as usual have good clues and often telling the truth and maybe our own natives here have really seen one of these maybe animals. I got lost in the BC forest for near 14 hours. I cannot even begin to tell you how huge the forests are there and old logging roads. I can be reasonably assured after being lost in there that such a creature as sasquatch may indeed be real in the sense that there is enough forest to hide them. You may have seen the story about the ape of sumatra they tested the hair for 3 years against all known species on earth and no match, so this proves some animal is unknown to science in sumatra and the reports sums it up for me that the animal is real and if one can escape us on a much smaller land mass then north america why not.

Ah, yes, the 'Gregory Peccary', a large, pugnacious, hoglike ungulate usually inhabited by the soul of a deceased Hollywood actor.

Are they sure it's a new species and not just a hybrid? In many cases, hybrids are larger than either parent's species. Just a thought.

There's a brief treatment of this animal in the chapter I wrote on wild pigs in Chad Arment's latest (2006) book on Cryptozoology.

The IUCN specialist group is not yet 100% convinced that this is a valid taxon, although the case appears to be pretty solid. (We have genetic material from the animal for study, but the usual caution applies: there's no universally accepted postulate on what degree of genetic difference establishes a distinction between species.)

Marc van Roosmalen, who as mentioned above has described numerous species of monkeys (some accepted, some disputed) also believes he is on the trail of a new jaguar, solid black with a white underside. This could be a species or a recurring variant like the king cheetah. (This is distinct from the fairly common melanistic jaguar, which is black with still-visible rosettes). Bill Rebsamen did a striking illustration which appears in my book Shadows of Existence. This is another case where local hunters have reported the animal convincingly enough to interest van Roosmalen, although he has yet to sight the beast himself.

The new peccary and the Australian snubfin dolphin are the latest in a long string of discoveries that establish how we have not yet catalogued all the world's mammals, or even all the large ones.

Van Roosmalen's jaguar is still just one entry on a list of "plausible mystery mammals" that includes Peter Hocking's Peruvian cats, at least one strange beaked whale from the Pacific, the Antarctic oddity known as Wilson's whale, and many others before one even gets into the controverial territory of sasquatch et. al.

I like the fact that the locals told them about it and someone listened and they went out and found it. What could be next.

Well what do you know real cryptozoologists and not phoney bigfoot hunters, most refreshing.

Maybe science will start to take a better look now and realize not all researchers are fakes and con artists.

Hurrah for cryptozoology. Now what about giant reptiles? I heard that the environment of the amazon basin has been untouched for 60 millions years, is it true?

Are there any pictures of it standing near a person or anything else that can give a visual perspective to how big it is?
