It was not JW Burn’s intention to create a hoaxed animal like the Tasmanian Mock Walrus or Jackalope, and the Indian traditions of the hairy wild giant of the woods predates him, yet that date did at one time cause me to become a bit skeptical of the Sasquatch-Indian connection (appearances can damage: April 1, April fools…). Nevertheless the connection has been made and proven despite that article’s poor choice of date. Some works for study include both the amazing “Giants, Cannibals & Monsters: Bigfoot In Native Culture” by Kathy Moskowitz Strain, and “Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science”, chapter 3.

Giving the confusion noted above, combined with the fact of immense cryptid hoaxing, I find the idea of “April Fool’s Cryptids” to be a bit unsettling. I’d rather have April Fool’s jokes that center on Pseudo-Skeptics (“This just In: Michael Shermer Mugged by Sasquatch street Gang!”, or “Nessie sues Skeptical Enquirer for Slander, hires Gary Spence!”)

There may be a Yeti on a Google Map out there too.
