I live a 30 minutes away from that sightings back in 1977 and pass there very frequently. I also find it very interesting, especially since it is local and is the only recorded bigfoot sighting in southern NH.

Couldn't tell for sure, but the thing in that footage looked kind of small for some reason... I personally would say mirrages seem more likely than otters in many cases though; I've seen all sorts of strange images and bizarre illusions hovering around lakes that are no more than that - things like foggy, half-existent boats that appear to levitate in the air, strange snake-like forms... once I even saw what looked exactly like the classic three-humped giant serpent - however, this, too, proved to be a mirrage when I saw part of an image of a house on the other side of the lake appear in the middle of it. Also, the wind can generate patterns in the waves that look pretty convincingly like large, moving entities below the surface at first.

If there is such a creature, or creatures, I think it would most likely be some form of undiscovered fresh-water cephalopod. People report so many different forms from Loch Ness, for instance; sometimes things like long necks, sometimes blobish things that move along the ground out of the water, sometimes small and sometimes large - and searchers always seem to find little or no evidence of things down there. The necks could be cephalopods' tentacles. Some cephalopods can move along the ground. They can be small or huge. And they can merge... Some species can change their entire form in an istant - color, shape, skin texture - to match perfectly with their surroundings. No one would find anything on the bottom of the loch because they would be the bottom of the lock - or at least a part of it. They can shift themselves from phase to phase, litterally becoming one with the universe... Some can blob and stretch out to fit into the tiniest of cracks... If there is a creature, that's why I'm guessing cephalopod.

BTW my dad saw a strange giant turkey in New Hampshire a few weeks ago - not exactly a cryptid, but it seems to fit with the giant cats. Also there's the giant lake - Winnipesaukee. And - you guessed it - there are supposed to be a few refferences to some sort of lake monster there (though I could hardly ever find any info on it)

Loren and all,

I had the "pleasure" of speaking with Joe Nickell a while back. It seems that a distant relative, David Nickell, is part of the Between the Rivers organization. This group is made up of some of the surviving people and their decedents who were summarily displaced by the government when the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area was formed between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake in western Kentucky. While speaking to David Nickell concerning a documentary project on the ongoing battle between the BTR and US Park Service over former properties, he mentioned his distant Uncle Joe. He suggested that Joe Nickell might be interested in commenting on one or more of my cryptid documentaries, so I contacted him.

As I explained where I got the lead, Joe Nickell interrupted me and asked, "Who referred you?" I explained that his distant nephew David had. Joe Nickell responded to me (paraphrased), "I know no such individual. There are Nickells all over the country. I do not have any knowledge of a nephew or any other relative in that part of Kentucky."

David Nickell was shocked when I related my conversation with "Uncle Joe". He said Joe had been to his home and, without a doubt, knew him and his family.

So, it would seem, Joe Nickell has found the perfect job. He is truly a skeptic's skeptic. Just ask his nephew David.
