No, Panchenko found its presence so alarming he was unwilling to risk frightening it by taking a flash photo.

I wonder if maybe the giant snake isn't a folkloric interpretation of finding sauropod fossils, just as the gryphon is thought to be of the ceratopsians?

Of course, I wouldn't want to find out I was wrong about that by waking up in the middle of the night in camp, being swallowed ;-)

I look forward to the results of this expedition. I have followed the Almas story for years. However, we read in the press release: "Ukrainian biologist Grigory Panchenko, who has been on the track of the ape-like man for over 14 years, will join the five-man team. Panchenko has seen the creature on four occasions, including a hair rising encounter on a remote farm, when he got to within ten feet of the creature." So where are the photos? Did Grigory forget to take his camera?

Sounds like a fascinating expedition they have coming up. Can't wait to see the finished documentary and/or any interesting results.

I'm really looking forward to the genetic and DNA evidence. If the expedition can find and verify someone who is a descendant of these human/almasty breedings it would prove the humanity of the almasty beyond doubt. Think about it; donkeys and horses are two different species which can interbreed to produce the mule, which is stronger and smarter than either of its parent species. But mules are sterile. This is usually also true for tiger/lion or lion/tiger crossbreeds. Different but close species can crossbreed to produce a child, but not a grandchild. If the human/almasty crossbreeds produce children who can have children, then the essential humanity of the almasty is irrefutable.

It would be nice to know we're not alone. It might even be the start of a renewed interest in our stewardship of the earth, knowing there is someone else around.
