(I posted the following first to the original story -- looks like the discussion has moved here ...)

I believe some others have suggested this, but the first thing I thought was "that's the rear end of a deer." I DO live east of the Miss. River, and I have seen plenty of whitetail deer (walking or running away from me as well!). The poor quality of the photo has given a reddish cast to the entire creature (and picture), so I wouldn't expect a bright white tail -- what I would expect is a relatively lighter patch, which I do see.

What do you think?

Couple comments I'm seeing here, I just wanted to note some things. First off these type of cameras are not motion activated, I own one, and they use an infared motion detector to detect heat in motion, not just motion. I've never heard of a game camera that was just motion activated, otherwise you'd be getting pics everytime something moved near the cam. I think it could be a hunter, but someone else thought it was a hunter with a deer slung over his shoulders, as a deer hunter I know nobody who would do something as foolish as to carry a deer like that, it's just asking to get shot.

Aside from that, I really do think it's nothing, camera error perhaps?

Looks like a bird to me. A Brown Thrasher. Working its way around the tree trunk eating bugs. I can see its head, back, wings with white bars that curve back-not arms of a little man. Its tail is probably twitching and is therefore blurred.

I still like the out-of-focus leaf idea. Let's face it, it's the right color. And it's blurry - everything else in the shot is pretty crisp (look at the orig.). Far away things are clear; close-up things, thus, would be blurry.

Although, for a motion-sensitive wildlife shot, one would hope for close-up focus for nearby bait shots. The motion-sensitive pics of animals I've ever seen are practically in their face.

It just seems like the item in question doesn't fit with the landscape, so it's either outside the depth of field, or it's a fakie.

Maybe it is an "authentic" physical object. Maybe it is a large wood carving. Wood pile to the right. No sign of movement.

There are lots of possibilities, but only one answer. If he is real, I want to buy him a beer.
