Firebirds are related to the Phoenix myth, birds coming out of the fires of destruction, symbolizing a new beginning, a rebirth.

Thunderbirds are the ancient Arabian Nights' Roc, the Sumerian Imgig, and the Garunda in Indonesia. In Siberia, the Thunderbirds were known as the Nogabird by the Chukchee peoples. The Nogabirds ate people, elk (moose), and whales.
