<description>I have big problems with "more activity" during times when the moon is the least luminescent. For starters, if you don't have good night vision (which I am going to make the claim that it probably doesn't considering it seems to be perfectly fine and active during the day), you aren't going to be doing more things on the nights when you have the most problems seeing. Also, is there more activity, or are we simply imagining more activity because of our unconscious fears of the dark and attributing more noises and other "proof" because of this.

Yes, no basis...just biased claims as I rush to class!</description>

<description>I've done a little research in that area myself, looking over sightings and distribution for West Virginia (don't ask, it was just a project of mine).

My information was based of of info from the BFRO site, and most of what I looked into suggested that the New Moon, Full Moon, and Dark Moon were all good...now that info could be skewed by all kinds of things (like only a limited number of incidents, reliability, etc.), but I have thought about the function of the moon before, especially with my favorite critters like Nessie, Champ and Ogopogo. The moon phase has a lot to do with breeding, movement and all kinds of things with animals (and I would be willing to wager with humanity too, though most people don't like to acknowledge that), and I think it should have similar effects on cryptids.

I am working on cataloging similar things for Nessie and Champ and Ogo, so that when I do finally get to go to those places I will have as much info as possible to refine my search.

In the meantime for those interested, I found a website that will calculate moon phase for you, &lt;a href="http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/vphase.html" rel="nofollow"&gt;here&lt;/a&gt;.
