Bigfoot at the Merrill
Posted by: Loren Coleman on January 12th, 2008

Saturday, January 12, 2008, the world premiere showing of the new indie film, Monster in the Woods will occur at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, Maine.
Built in 1912 to replace two former halls both destroyed by fire, the (Portland, Maine) City Hall Auditorium was a classic example of colonial style, boasting porticos and columns, a deep court and large wings. The hall was completely renovated beginning in January 1996, and today, the re-named Merrill Auditorium is a 1900 seat performing arts facility, located in the remarkable setting of downtown Portland, on the beautiful coast of Maine.

The plot of Monster in the Woods centers on two cryptozoologists (played by Jana Regan and Seth Holbrook) who go looking into some Sasquatch sightings in the Maine forests and have to contend with the local sheriff, assorted suspicious (and gun-toting) residents and a rival researcher in their quest to track down the man-beast. There is a cameo appearance by Loren Coleman, cryptozoologist and Bigfoot researcher, in the film.
The motion picture will be shown from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, after a brief introduction by indie filmmaker Andy Davis of Emptyhouse Film, and some opening remarks about Bigfoot by Coleman.
Coleman, Davis, and others will be at the “Film Fair” held in the lobby from 4:30-6:00 pm, before the showing of Monster in the Woods, to sell and autograph books and other Bigfoot, Yeti, and film-related items.

The Merrill Auditorium is a beautiful jewel located in Portland. It’s worth a trip just to see the design of this magnificent theater.
Loren, have you seen this movie? A critique of your experience would be appropriate. I hope this isn’t another Sci-Fi Network sensationalistic type film. The bigfoot fare they have been churning out isn’t worth the time it takes to reach the first commercial break. Even though the title seems a bit extreme perhaps there is a plot here worth a trip to Portland to see this thing tonight. No need to pan the movie here if it’s bad Loren, but, a more than tacit endorsement may be helpful.
Hope your cameo helps that film out a bit Loren.
My cameo, I think, must be microscopic. I’ll let people know later, as I have not seen the film.
But, hey, it’s a humor-based indie, so I’m not sure what people are expecting?
Life is too short to take it all so seriously.
