I think that their are more new sightings than people realize. I bet most of them don’t get reported for fear of ridicule. I myself know of someone that had a sighting not even two weeks ago.

it’s rare that a hoaxster would come forward at all, especially after such a magnitude of publicity that is — let’s face it — embarrassing if the hoaxster isn’t in it to simply try to discredit cryptozoologist who take any such sightings seriously.

in a weird way, i find it refreshingly honest. it’s rare that such a person would raise his hand afterwards and say, ‘uh, it was i that cut the cherry tree down,’ you know?

more often than not, most would simply hope that no one ever told and that the incident passed. this saved a lot of good folks further energies wasted, which — although there was some at first — at least wasn’t logged as an ‘official’ set of tracks.

Gotta love NDN sense of humor. All that stoic “ugh” stuff you see in the movies — well that’s just the movies. They may be reserved around strangers but are pretty good jokers and pranksters when you get to know them (personal experience). That’s why they have all those stories about Coyote the Trickster.
