Thanks again to Loren for posting!

Barmanu does seem to be exactly the same as Biabanguli/ Golub-yavans, the Almaslike creature, and both the bare knees and bare breasts are commonly reported in the type (especially noted in Russia and China also).

I saw while on a photo search that Loren had a previous posting concerning the Kaptar examined by Lt-Col. V. S. Karapetyan and another similar creature in the Pamirs that were victims of earlier wars, and that would be a good cross-reference in this matter. That posting had a couple of drawings which I felt would go well with this one.

Three thoughts about this post:

1. The bare knees are from crawling around trying to avoid the artillery barrage.

2. So that's whats happened to Bin Laden, he took up with Ms. Barmanu and is wintering in the Southern Pamirs.

3. Oh great! Now there's something else to worry our boys while they hunt the Taliban.

Very interesting item. From the military activity, and the reference to Chitral in the Magraner piece, I guess that 'someplace in eastern Afghanistan' would be Nuristan. Is the Barmanu anything like the almas-type creature known as Yavoi-Adam or similar in Afghanistan? If I were looking for hominids in Afghanistan I would start in the Wakhan coridor, where it runs through the southern Pamirs.
