Canadian MP Mike Lake Distancing from Bigfoot and Todd Standing?

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on May 11th, 2007

Apparently, Canadian MP Mike Lake is backpeddling from his support of Todd Standing of Sylvanic infamy and his petition to protect Bigfoot.

You can read about his apparent, initial support of the petition to protect Bigfoot here on Cryptomundo at:

Petition Says Protect Bigfoot

and Bigfoot is an Endangered Species?

His office issued the following press release a week ago.

Statement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 03-MAY-2007

OTTAWA – Recently, there have been misleading stories from various media sources regarding a petition presented in the House of Commons to recognize Bigfoot as a protected species.

On March 28, 2007, Mike Lake, MP for Edmonton – Mill Woods – Beaumont tabled in the House of Commons a petition brought forward by one of his constituents. This constituent had collected signatures from a few hundred individuals, the vast majority of whom reside outside Mr. Lake’s constituency. The petition was deemed by the House of Commons’ Clerk of Petitions to be in order.

“I take seriously my responsibility to represent allof my constituents, regardless of whether or not I agree with their views. If a legitimate petition is brought forward by one of my constituents and deemed to be in order, I feel it is my duty to table it in the House.”

At no time did Mr. Lake speak in the House of Commons regarding the petition. At no point has Mr. Lake indicated his support for this petition.

As this press release was not widely dispersed, I contacted Mike lake’s office to verify that it was indeed legitimate.

Mr. Lake,

I am trying to ascertain whether the following (here it is above) press release is legitimate and was issued by your assistant. I did not want to quote it without verifying it first.

I also wanted to see if you had a statement regarding this petition and/or Todd Standing and his film of “Sylvanic”?

What is your personal opinion regarding the existence of Bigfoot, if you care to share it?

Sincerely, Craig Woolheater

The first reply I received was the following:

Subject: RE: Bigfoot press release

Mr. Woolheater,

Please provide me with your telephone number so we can discuss this a little further.

I then replied:

Sent: May 9, 2007 7:55 PM
To: Lake, Mike – M.P.
Subject: RE: Bigfoot press release

Donna,

I live in Texas, but would be more than happy to discuss this with you. When would a good time to do so be?

Thanks, Craig Woolheater

And this was the telling, second reply:

Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2007 8:52 AM To: craig@cryptomundo.com
Subject: RE: Bigfoot press release

Hi Craig,

Just thought it would be easier to talk yesterday. I’m out of the office for the next couple of days (meetings/appointments).

Regarding the press release, yes it is legitimate and was issued by our office. The press release is the only statement that Mr. Lake will be making. He is not responding to any media requests in the hope that this issue will go away. Mr. Lake does not believe in Bigfoot!

Hope this helps.

Donna

  1. joppa responds:

What’s this? Do I detect that MP Lake is a little afraid of Bigfoot ridicule? I didn’t think such a thing as a ridicule existed.

Well, we can’t lose “Standing” with our constituents can we? I think the bus just ran over someone. Hey Todd, as the Police would sing, “Don’t stand, don’t stand, don’t stand so close to an MP. “

  2. elsanto responds:

    Craig,

Thanks for giving me a needed chuckle this afternoon. The Honourable Member (though given his party affiliation, I prefer to use a synonym for “member”), Mr. Lake’s reaction is understandable, when one considers that his party, which is the ruling party in a minority government, has been dropping in its popularity as the Canadian public finally opens its eyes to exactly whom they voted into office. With embarrassment upon embarrassment, broken promise upon broken promise (even 4th graders could have seen that coming), all Conservative MPs have serious damage control to perform at every level. It wouldn’t do to have the Opposition take potshots at him for having brought such a petition to the House of Commons (though the fact that the majority of signatures came from individuals outside his constituency strikes me as the most embarrassing aspect for him, rather than the premise of the petition itself).

Either that, or he actually met and conversed with Mr. Standing for a few minutes — which was enough to give him reason to back the heck away.

    Just my two cents.

  3. silvereagle responds:

Politicians need to be reelected, therefore it is relatively easy to “get to” them in order to maintain the status quo of the great unspoken Bigfoot denial conspiracy. Political action groups can also “get to” a politician, when their self-interests conflict with societies need to know.

  4. MultipleEncounters responds:

I would still like to know if Mr. Standing had hired some actors in 2005 as alluded to in a prior thread?

    Maybe the smoking gun?

  5. swnoel responds:

Get proof that this animal exists and I’ll bet you’ll see alot of government and scientific support.

Why can’t anyone show proof of the existence of this animal?

  6. mitchigan responds:

I agree with swnoel. Todd seems to going about this backwards. He should release his “definitive proof” first, then protection would surely follow.

  7. bill green responds:

hey craig great update article about todd standing sasquatch petition very interesting indeed. thanks bill green 🙂

  8. things-in-the-woods responds:

‘unspoken’ other than by you, silvereagle- keep up the good fight. 😉

  9. MultipleEncounters responds:

Hmmm, could ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ or ‘Chronicles of Narnia’, be Todd’s original inspiration for the term ‘Sylvanic’?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sylvan

I’ve never seen any evidence of a true geographic location of Sylvanic in North America.

This is also a post by Mr. Standing a few years ago in another forum. (unexplained-mysteries.com)

“All the while looking for a 2foot by 2foot hole that goes under this chain of moutains. It is very difficult. And again i did it in the winter, for summer the whole look of the landscape is changed. Rock formations that where there before are now cover by trees with leaves and tall grass. Even besides all that the entrance into sylvanic is facing inward towards the mountain so if you walked right by it you would not see it. In other words if by chance you where to walk right past it you would never see it.”

    ‘A 2′ X 2′ hole under a chain of mountains’. RIGHT!
