I'm afraid Mr. Fahrenbach's statement says it all--"But perhaps Fahrenbach’s most telling conclusion is his response to what it will take for mainstream science to give Bigfoot any serious attention: "It’ll take a corpse, and a scientist to take it to a meeting and rub people’s noses in it." We have footprints galore, which to the unprejudiced are genuine. The Patterson and Freeman films are quite compelling to me. There are volumes of anecdotal evidence going back a century and more-reports consistent in their particulars to one another. I don't have to mention numerous things like twists, fawn carcasses, sound recordings etc. which most of us are well aware of. The only thing that will satisfy the larger scientific community is a body(and strangely enough, it seems that we'll have one of THOSE before we get a high quality piece of film!).

THAT'S THE SPIRIT!

Being somewhat of an etymological persuasion, (whatever that means), I was recently pondering the possible derivation of the name 'Sasquatch' without actually getting round to looking it up - but thanks to you Craig: Lo, it's decided to look me up instead!

Well I guess it comes down to the fact that many people from all walks of life see them (ie) Bigfoot creatures in many places and often footprints are found.

All these people can't be seeing things.

And what about those who don't report their sighting because of public ridicule?

Apply the science and do the research that will solve the mystery sooner or later.

On June 10th 1886 King Ludwig II of Bavaria was declared insane and deposed for designing and attempting to build a flying car. All the notable "men of science" declared he was dangerously mad and had him committed. However in August 2006 a team of aeronautical engineers confirmed that "Mad Ludwigs" designs would have worked which means that, had he been allowed to complete them, Ludwig II would have taken to the skies more than two decades before the Wright brothers.

Rambling though I am, the point is that for far too long scientists have been blinkered by their preconceptions to the extent that they are willing to let important discoveries slip through their hands. It's time people stopped being so concerned with the petty thoughts of others and seriously researched ALL possibilities. There is no smoke without fire, and there's no hundreds of years of sightings and evidence without Sasquatch!

I do agree with Mr. Fahrenbach in that the oversensationalization of the Bigfoot phenomena has contributed at least in part to the fact that many "serious" scientists don't want to go near it or even consider it. Bigfoot is kind of made out to be like space aliens or the tooth fairy, and it is fodder for tabloids and people who want to make fun. It's a shame because if more scientific minds, resources, and funding were brought to bear on the study of Bigfoot, I think we would make leaps and bounds towards getting to the bottom of what is going on, hoax or otherwise. It's great that there are intelligent, diligent people out there like Loren, Autumn, Craig, and Dr. Meldrum out there, but it sure would be nice if this sort of research was more readily accepted by mainstream science. This is going to be hard when the subject of Bigfoot is presented as such an odd curiosity by mass media.
