I don't necessarily agree with portraying the sasquatch as a violent creature and I am all for movies like "Harry and the Hendersons." I just don't think we should get too worked up about films like this one.
Hoosierhunter- Well, I get your drift. Look what "JAWS" did for sharks. I just think that considering that the great deal of the public doesn't believe in Bigfoot anyway, then they are more likely to see them as a fantastical creature, not a potentially real animal that could be dangerous to them. It would be like them seeing dragons or something at the movies. If Bigfoot was a documented animal, then I think that sort of connection would be made in the eyes of the filmgoer, but at this time, I feel that most people are not going to see this and think this is a real creature that is a real threat. And the ones that know any better don't think that anyway. If Bigfoot IS found, I rather doubt anyone is going to think back to this movie and think "That movie said they are rampaging killers!". I personally am not too concerned with innaccurate portrayals of creatures that most of the filmgoing audience see as a myth anyway and I don't think it will cause too many repurcussions on serious research because of this. I see your point, but I am not going to feel ashamed or guilty about seeing this.

mystery_man:

I understand what you are saying. Of course you and I are in better positions to understand the difference between the accurate portrayal of bigfoot and sensational fiction. But the average movie-goer does not.
I know this is not a documentary, but people WILL come away from this type of movie with the idea that this creature, if he exists, is dangerous and should be exterminated.

It all goes back to the fear of the unknown. How does a movie like this help bigfoot research? How does it prepare the mind of the average person who may be interested in bigfoot?

Just for the sake of argument, let's say UFO's are real. Given that most portrayals of aliens have been negative, that they should be feared; that they are here to exterminate the human race, what would you do if confronted by one? You would fear it maybe try to kill it because that is what has been subtlely programmed into you by these movies.

I think bigfoot existing is a much better bet than a "space alien". Thus, these negative portrayals of bigfoot as a maniacal big hairy monster will only do damage to legitimate research.

Do not underestimate the power of movies to influence our perceptions and our prejudices. Most people do not think as deeply as you do.

Hoosierhunter- So I suppose you think the film makers should invest time and money on a film about Bigfoot cavorting about minding its own business? You think that would be a blockbuster? Sorry, but they make these for entertainment and for the people who pay money to go see it, not to portray an accurate picture of how Bigfoot lives. Unless it is a real film of real Bigfoot, I just don't think there is a market for movies about peaceful bigfoot eating berries and hiding from humans, and the movie industry is not doing this for its health. This is not meant to be a documentary not does it claim to be. I know that, the posters here know that, so what's the harm? Anybody who is a regular visitor to this site or knows anything about Bigfoot knows that Bigfoot, if it exists, is NOT a maniacal killer. If you are really that offended by dangerous misleading information in movies, I think there are other movies you could pick on other than this obviously escapist popcorn movie. I don't always go to the movies for hardcore realism and neither do the people this movie is aimed at, so I personally am confident enough that I'm not going to come out of the theater suddenly thinking Bigfoot is a ruthless savage.

Frankly, I'm surprised at all of you. The bigfoot is, by and large, an intelligent creature protecting its territory! It very seldom, if ever, harms even a human being. Now it is apparently turned into a homicidal maniac (not unlike many humans) and you, who comment here, are obviously drooling over this uncharacteristic betrayal? Shame on you!

I'm tired of our pet projects, which the world disbelieves in, turned into maniacal ripoffs of the worst of human behavior, and our very people (cryptomundo commenters) supporting such projects! Is this what bigfoot has become? A big hairy monster that we should be afraid of? An "unknown" that needs to be destroyed because it just doesn't fit? A creature that can be reduced to the likes of Freddy Krueger or Jason Voorhees?

Sorry, I won't be watching and and I won't be supporting such an unrealistic portrayal of bigfoot.

To paraphrase: "Just as tangled as American forests are the jungles of the mind, where legend and superstition become entwined with exploring the nature of those shadowy places."

One would hope the Movie is as well-directed as this trailer.

This movie looks really good! I understand I made some bad claims about the Loch Ness monster movie, but this has been professionally put together from the looks of these trailers. Good luck to the filmmakers finding a distributor.

I am not sure, but didn't those loggers in California talk about Sasquatches banding together in order to scare them off? This could be where the holding hands thing came from.
