Reward For Nessie

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on June 4th, 2007

Hot on the heels of the Gordon Holmes video footage of something strange in the loch, comes this news of a reward for photo evidence of Nessie taken at next weekend’s Rock Ness music festival.

£1m to find Loch Ness monster

A £1 million reward has been offered to anyone who can find conclusive proof that the Loch Ness monster exists.

The bounty is part of plans to supply up to 50,000 people with cameras in order to search for the mythical sea creature at next weekend’s Rock Ness music festival.

Organisers are claiming it will be the largest ever organised attempt to prove the famous monster is real.

Bookmakers William Hill are offering the reward to anyone who finds evidence which persuades the Natural History Museum that Nessie exists.

They are also offering odds of 250/1 that the museum will agree the existence of the creature sometime this year.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “We are hoping the £1 million bounty will help to solve one of the great enigmas of modern times.

“This is a great opportunity with such huge crowds on the shores of Loch Ness and it will be fantastic if someone can get a picture with one of the thousands of Nessie-Snappers cameras we are handing out, that can rival the ‘Surgeon’s photograph’, which is still the most recognised despite being taken over 50 years ago.”

The bookmakers are also offering a number of consolation prizes including £1,000 and a free £250 bet for the best photographic evidence real or staged.

To qualify for the reward all evidence must be gathered over the weekend of the two-day music festival and must be submitted to William Hill by Monday June 18.

The festival, at Dores, near Inverness, is on June 9 and 10 and features top bands such as the Manic Street Preachers.Yahoo! News UK & Ireland

We’ll see how successful any of the festival goers will be.

I heard from an attendee of last year’s event that festival goers were not allowed on the shore of the loch. Hopefully, Hill will be giving out cameras with zoom lenses.

Nessie is known to be scared off by noise. I hardly think she/he/it will appear during the rock festival which can be heard for miles.

Good luck to all the photographers though. If nothing else they may get to appreciate the changing scenery of the loch.

An interesting comment I heard was that a shark has reproduced without a mate (I believe it was on the news) and maybe the Loch Ness creature can do the same, hence no need for a huge group of creatures as was always speculated.

  2. DWA responds:

Not a Nessie fan, this one.

I mean, I’d love to see something radically unknown confirmed in Loch Ness. I’m just not thinking it likely based on what I’ve seen and heard. As numerous reports have the animal surfacing, and even leaving the loch – something it doesn’t seem it can go 48 hours without doing once – I’d think that you’d have a good chance of something interesting with this kind of crowd. But then again, how many billions in tourism has Loch Ness garnered so far, without anything close to confirmation?

    that said:

    1) I’d hope that the cameras are waterproof. More important than zoom, I’d say.

    2) Rewards like this have a habit of bringing unconventional searchers out of the woodwork. That might be good.

    3) Hint: Ted Turner. Donald Trump. Bill Gates. Consortium. Sasquatch. Just tossing out random words here.

How about Holmes – will he be there?

“Rock Ness” – I love it!

  4. mystery_man responds:

Not the most scientific way of going about things, I’d say. I bet there would be some pretty interesting pics taken with those cameras whether they were of the Nessie or not. Kind of a good idea to give out a bunch of cameras to concert goers and see what they do with them. Could spin it into some sort of photo book of the event and make some money even if Nessie is a now show.

  5. DARHOP responds:

Too many people… Too much noise…
Nessie will be a no show at Rock Ness…

  6. zod responds:

I have proof that it is an elephant, so I win. Send me the money.

    Yeah, Get Real.

Sorry. Comments have been closed.
