When I was a boy, I found a mastodon molar in the seasonal lake (peat soil the rest of the year, that stuff itches(!) and can burn underground for years) that Dad rented for farming. Someone else rents that land now, but that tooth is in my Dad’s office to this day.

I wonder how far McMinnville is from Portland? If my memory serves me right, I believe a Mammoth tusk was found here in Washington last summer or the summer before that. Can’t remember. I think it was near Bellingham or Bremerton. So it seems these beasts were all over the place. Anybody read a book called Silver Hair? It’s about a Mammoth herd and their journey through life. Good book, sad.

You’re right MattBille. I thought McMinnville sounded familiar, ufologically speaking. Anyway kudos to the two boys who made this exciting find. I thought finding fosssilized ferns as a kid was neat but this tops that and then some.

Ironically, just a few minutes ago on the local evening news here, they announced that a construction worker also in Portland found a Mammoth tusk at a construction site. No idea if this is anywhere close to the tooth find as of yet?

Dang Mameeths must have been running around everywhere around here. Stand in the wrong spot and you get stepped on

Iin the animal when it croaked … ummm – so why are they scouting out new places to dig? Isn’t the whole beast there under the mud where they found the tooth?

I think that’s an awesome find.

Can you imagine how the children feel about it? That kind of experience, at 10 years old, will be life changing. Best part is – they already had a love for the outdoors and things of nature. There’ll be no stopping that now, way to go!

Very Kool. I wonder if they will find any more of beast! Or if they are lucky, BF bones. Wouldn’t that be awesome? Find some BF bones while looking for Mammoth bones.

Is there a suggestion that ordinarily mammoths don’t die with their teeth? Or that they spit ‘em out before they die? I thought they erupted at the back of the mammoth’s jaw and migrated forward to position as the previous ones were worn away by the considerable ginding the teeth are admirably adapted to do.

And so, are we going to find out about the rest of the mammoth…and the sasquatch crumpled grass?
