Excellent points, dogu4. In this Photoshop age, even a very steady film of Bigfoot, or wonderfully crisp photographs, would be held suspect. We will need to identify Bigfoot's habitat, we will need reproducible observations, and we will need field observations by experts before Bigfoot is taken seriously or believed in.

Or we could luck out and have one walk into a Chicago Quizno's like that coyote did last week. :)

The story of Dr. Goodall's life as a wildlife biologist/primatologist is one that bigfoot researchers should take to heart. Her persistence, while not needed to convince the scientific community that chimps exist, was never the less critically necessary in order to familiarize the scientific community with the validity of research protocols relating her observations to human behavior and emotions. Now accepted under the concept of evolutionary psychology, when she was first beginning her research her work was held suspect because she dared to give her subjects names and ascribe human feelings to them.

Simply seeing and photographing a creature is not going to be enough. We've shown repeatedly that whatever techinique we're using to observe these creatures is not working very well and my suspicion is that until a new understanding emerges we're not likely to be able to predict the behaviours we're trying to observe.

I'd love to see Dr Goodall and Dr.Jablonski in a forum on primate physiology and behavior.

Well, you don't get much better a vote of confidence than Jane Goodall herself!

I was listening to this live in my office when the original broadcast was aired on NPR's science friday...and nearly fell off my chair!

It is also important to keep in perspective where Dr. Goodall points out that she is "a romantic" about this and, "wants them to be real."

Still her belief does "make my day" every time I think or hear about it.

Jane Goodall also provided introductory comments for the DVD set produced following the 2003 Willow Creek International Bigfoot Symposium.

Wow, I had read some where that Jane Goodall had said something about what she thinks about Bigfoot, but wow I mean I never know that she believed in the existence so strongly. and the fact that she not only believes in them, but she seems to have done some research. It's great to know that someone who has done so much in regards to the field of primates, has not only looked at the evidence, but has come away from it a believer and the best part is that she openly aments that she believes in the existence of Bigfoot. I can only hope that she continues in her believe in Bigfoot and I hope that she helps spread the word to others in her field of what she sees as proof. I had a bad day at work today and this post alone has made my day so much better. Thanks you for posting.
