If they were are smart then as they are now , why do we have fossils, and so forth. I think, if plausible, that these sightings are probably a unknown creature but with a paranormal connection. I know that the wilderness is vast even with all that man has conquered( or deforested) , we should have by now obtained credible/physical evidence of these creatures, especially in our back yards to say the least.
