Good points. The term, "sons of God", has several different meanings in the Bible. The term as used in Genesis ch. 6 (quoted by Albright in my previous post) may speak of angelic beings; another interpretation is that they are the descendants of Seth or perhaps simply the believing sons of Adam. I personally don't think the latter two interpretations hold up, but I digress.

If the former is true, then the context in which the term is used in the Book of Job, namely in the first and thirty-eighth chapters, would be speaking of astral beings (angels), and not humans. The meaning of "sons of God" in the New Testament, such as the example you gave from Romans, speaks to the soteriology of the NT, and has nothing to do with angels. So the context of the phrase in question would determine its meaning.

As for angels not being able to procreate - yes, I believe that is part of their original station. However, the astral beings in question here rebelled against their original purpose, and rather than being subservient to God became rebellious against Him, doing everything contrary - mingling with humankind carnally being just one such action. So in the case of Matthew 22, the difference might be between the "sons of God" who remained loyal to the throne, and those who joined in the Luciferian rebellion.

As for Esau, his degree of hirsuteness cannot be overstated. We can read the account in Genesis where Jacob tricked his elderly, blind father Isaac into thinking that he was actually Esau by placing goatskins on his body. When Issac felt the goatskins placed on Jacobs hands, he truly believed that Jacob was in fact Esau!

There are a couple of times that sons of God are mentioned in the Bible. Also is the term used in the cryptozoologist friendly book of Job and perhaps lesser known is the term used in the New Testament book of Romans where it is defined...

Romans 8:14
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Another point of interest; Jacob who later became known as Israel had a fraternal twin brother Esau who was covered in hair, perhaps Hypertrichosis or 'werewolf syndrome' like...

Genesis 25:25
And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau

Genesis 27:11

Thank you for posting this fascinating article [tales of giants always do fascinate, don't they?].

Giants also seemed to be prominent in western Asia, as they figure quite frequently in the Hebrew scriptures (or Old Testament). Even folks of a largely secular bent are familiar with the Israelites 40 years wandering in the wilderness. What they probably don't realize is this wandering was a direct result of contact with giants!

When the Israelites reached the border of Canaan, 12 spies were sent by Moses to reconnoiter the land. As recorded In the 13th chapter of the book of Numbers, ten of the twelve came back with this report: "The people who live there are powerful, and the cities are fortified and very large. We even saw descendants of Anak there...The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”

Despite the protestations of the other two spies, the people refused to attempt to conquer the promised land and were sentenced to 40 years of wilderness wanderings.

Nevertheless, this is far from the first Biblical account of giants, and they are mentioned almost casually throughout early Biblical history. Five hundred years earlier (about 1950 B.C.) we read of Canaanite king Kedarlaomer and his allies defeating several races of giants, namely the Rephaim, the Zuzim, and the Emim.

These three giant races are all described in Moses' time, during the last days of the desert wanderings. Concerning the Emim, we read in Dueteronomy chapter 2: ‘ Do not harass Moab, nor provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land as a possession, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.’ (The Emim lived there formerly, a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim. Like the Anakim, they are also regarded as Rephaim, but the Moabites call them Emim...)

Of the The 'Zuzim, also called Zamzummim, we read in Deut. chapter 2: "Today you are to pass by the region of Moab at Ar...that too was considered a land of the Rephaim, who used to live there; but the Ammonites used to call them Zamzummim. They were a people as strong and numerous and as tall as the Anakim. The LORD destroyed them from before the Ammonites, who drove them out..."

As the Israelites were headed back to conquer Canaan the second time, they first defeated two Amorite kings, one of whom was named Og. We read this interesting tidbit about him: "Og king of Bashan was the last of the Rephaim. His bed was decorated with iron and was more than 13 feet long and 6 feet wide. It is still in Rabbah of the Ammonites." The destruction of the Amorite giants was commemorated by the prophet Amos in about 750 B.C., when he wrote "Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks..."

When Joshua led the invasion of Canaan, roughly 1400 B.C., we read of a border of Judean territory called the Valley of the Rephaim, and further north, an area known simply as the Land of the Rephaim.

The last mention of interaction between the Hebrews and giants comes from the famous account of David and Goliath, which took place a little before 1000 B.C.. What is not generally known is that Goliath was one of a litter of giants, perhaps the last in existence in that region: "And it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued.

And there was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

And there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was born unto the giant. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him.

These were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants." [1 Chronicles 20: 4-8].

As for the origin of these giants - well, let's just say that volumes have been, and continue to BE written, on this topic. This quote from William F. Albright contains an answer still held by many today: "Yahweh was believed to have created astral as well as terrestrial beings and the former were popularly called 'the host of heaven', or 'the sons of God'. In Genesis 6:1 ff., for example, the (astral) gods had intercourse with mortal women who gave birth to heroes (literally, meteors, nephilim), an idea that may be illustrated from Babylonian and Greek mythology. But the Israelite who had this section recited, unquestionably thought of intercourse between angels and women (like later Jews and Christians)." - From the Stone Age to Christianity (1940), p. 226.

That Nahanni valley keeps coming up in discussions like this too. Gian Quasar, in his book "Recasting Bigfoot", makes the case for sasquatch hunters to hunt for the creature/creatures (he believes that 2 different species of new world "ape" (tail-less primates descended from monkeys) and a subspecies/species of homonid are responsible for the bigfoot phenomena) in the Nahanni valley. I guess its not hard to figure out why more research has not been done there (due to its fierce reputation as formidable wilderness, twilight zone-esque stories, etc), but though I differ with the author of that book on many things, I think he has a point: that valley, and other remote regions of the Canadian west, need to be really explored, need to be searched high and low by bigfoot hunters.

That location would be a very good spot for that "Finding Bigfoot" show. I don't have cable so I haven't been able to watch it all. Have they been there already?
