I have to say I live in CO and I am terrified about the black bears. I could just imagine running into a grizzly!

The photo, if taken as descibed, was clearly taken from a distance much too close for safety. I don't see anything that says it's not Colorado, although a botanist might spot some discrepansices in the plant life. It also seems odd that, if the photographer got close enough to take this shot, she took no pictures either while she was approaching the bears or while she was retreating.
Having researched this issue a few years ago, I do think a couple of grizzlies, relicts or strays, do live in CO (the 1979 animal was a female and had given birth - where's the cub?), but it's hard to imagine there is a viable population.

This looks like the kind of thing some people spread in order to scare "tourists" away. Just about any mountain community in Colorado (and lots of other places) is plagued with newcomers who want to keep everyone else out. "I was here first. You go away," is the mentality. It is often expressed verbally, with a thick accent. Real mountain locals do not often behave this way, at least in my experience.

Substitute the word "sasquatch" for "bear" and this could be a standard Bigfoot report. Weird. Hoaxing bear photos? What's next?
