If FB/FB had done their due diligence in this manner they would never have “confirmed” this video. The YouTube channel had many red flags.

First, there were only two videos on the channel when I looked. One video was a week old (the B&W video from inside the tent). The other video was TWO weeks old and was simply advertising their web site shootingsasquatch.com.

At that time (earlier this week) the web site had several videos, all of which were bigfoot spoofs, video games, and related hoax material. It was quite obvious this was a hoax video based on the web site.

Interestingly the web site has been removed and now links to the Youtube channel which has only one video now (they took down the web site promotional video and the inside the tent video) that says the web site “is coming” and announces a press conference will be coming.

Add to all this that some folks have linked Rick Dyer to this entire fiasco and you have enough information to put a fork in it.

Red Pill, we’re all sick of the Clarence Darrow character assassination tactics to prove a point. No one thinks the P-G film makers were saints, but you have NO scientific evidence the film is faked. NONE.

You want a mental exercise, do a sudoku.

Thank you for the kind advice, mandors. No, I’m afraid I’m not into sudokus or crosswords. My attempt at a gedankenexperiment was because not only they are fun, but they are also great ways to examine a well-known event or circumstance from an entirely different perspective.

The kind of thought experiment I proposed is the type often known as ‘alternative history’, like imagining how modern history had varied if for example, Hitler had never become Prime Minister of Weimar’s Republic, or had Napoleon won in Waterloo. In his radio show Truthout radio, Richard Dolan made the open question to his listeners: what would happen if the modern UFO wave of ’47 hadn’t happened until the year 2012? I thought it was a great idea, so I attempted to do the same here @ Cryptomundo.

Your somewhat irate response —and slightly telling of your personal belief system, I might add— shows you are of the assumption that I disbelieve the authenticity of the P-G film, something I fail to see how could anyone extrapolate from my original comment. While I could answer using the same type of courtesy you’ve shown me, and tell you it’s none of your business what I think of the film in question, I will nevertheless disclose that I try to treat things in the Fortean world like the type of Algebraic functions which can plot a curve, coming awfully close to the given value without ever truly reaching it —what I like to call ‘F-value’, in parody of the ‘c’ value of the speed of light, which can never be reached by Einsteinian laws.

With all that said, personally I give the P-G film an F-value of 90. BUT— and here was the motive of my failed experiment— the way I or anyone judges the film is inexorably shaped by the decades that have passed since it was first presented.

So, I (tried to) ask: What would be like in a world where the P-G film hadn’t surfaced until 2012? How would a modern version of Patterson have handled the release of the film? would he have created a Youtube channel? call Fox News? I’d imagine in such an alternative scenario there wouldn’t even be TV programs like ‘Finding Bigfoot’, and maybe hoaxes wouldn’t be as numerous, since there wouldn’t be an incentive to replicate the success of a film that hasn’t become public yet. So what could be done with such an evidence? And would that make the public more or less suspicious about its authenticity?

Just trying to gather some food for thought. Though it might not be to everyone’s palate.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, asecretcountry. On the hypothetical case that I were to stumble on a really startling piece of evidence, I honestly don’t know how I would react. I do think that I wouldn’t rush to Fox News or the Discovery channel to cash in on it. Assuming I was a newbie in this field I would probably begin by ‘charting the waters’ and trying to discern who was the most credible and respected researcher.

That would no doubt lead me to someone like Loren Coleman, or Jeff Meldrum. So I guess I would then write an e-mail to one or both of them and ask them for advice.

As a more personal note, I should tell you that if I were the sort of person who puts too much stock in money, then I probably wouldn’t devote so much of my time in the Fortean blogosphere —something that no doubt would make my father real happy
