Update: Ph.D. Biochemist Supports Ketchum Sasquatch DNA Study

Posted by: Craig Woolheater on February 22nd, 2013

Melba Ketchum posted the following quote on facebook, presumably by David H. Swenson, Ph.D.

I did more blast analyses and came up with the same confusion the independent labs had. The genome has some good human matches and some unknowns.

The sequences are not contaminated, near as I can tell. I have not searched for open reading frames, but that is beyond the scope of my tools. The close matches are gapped with sequences that match nothing. AMEL and MY genes match humans in some cases, in others, not. If I am wrong, I would like to be shown with data, not uninformed opinion from “experts.”David H. Swenson, Ph.D.

Tip o’ the hat again to Cryptomundian edsbigfoot.

  1. Evso Rivers via Facebook responds:

Let this DNA be tested by legite labs not independent let this find be made for science not profit why has it taken so long why hasn’t there been a timeline established to tell us all when these results will be presented to the public it all seems to fishy. If its real then the evidence will hold up to scientific scrutiny. Ill wait to Dr. Meldrum has a chance to review and make a statement on it.I want to discover this animal but it has to be done right with no doubt.the Patterson film is a prime. Example of how evidence can be ambiguous if not coalated right.its all so frustrating and Matt moneymaker is no help with his gung ho support.

  2. Goodfoot responds:

“AMEL and MY genes”?? I feel so left out.

  3. edsbigfoot responds:

    @GoodFoot

Ah! I’m not alone in my alone-ness afterall! LOL!

  4. MR JOSHUA responds:

Hopefully none of that syrup from the McD’s pancakes got in the sample there Swenson and screwed up your AMEL and MY.

  5. Goodfoot responds:

MR JOSHUA: I don’t get it.

  6. Bellerophon responds:

It is nice to see some positive feedback on the data but it would improve the situation if there was someone else other then David Swenson commenting on this.

  7. asecretcountry responds:

    Amazing..that sure convinces me.
Thank god this was published in a STANDARD peer reviewed journal(and not a brand new/renamed journal more than likely owned by by someone associated with Ketchum?)

Thank god the video provided by Dr K was so amazing and had never been shown before.

Thank god that Moneymaker supported that amazing film which means its real.

Thank god for facebook update science perfected by Dr K.

Seriously…you couldnt make this train wreck up.

I assume the remaining 2 ? supporters of “DR” K posting here are about 14 years old and illiterate. 🙂

Dr K..the gift to the sceptics that just doesnt stop giving. 🙂

    Greetings,

I’ve been quiet for some time on the whole Dr. Ketchum DNA Study. I’ve had a gut feeling for some time that there was more to her study than was being let on and that patience was in order.

I do clearly realize that Professor Loren Coleman is not a supporter of her study and perhaps won’t change his mind until another independent study confirms her findings. That is his right and he has an education and experience to make that choice.

However, when all is said and done Dr Ketchum and her group may very well be hailed as scientific pioneers. Perhaps someday they will explain in detail why all the mystery about the release of the report and the video. It clearly detracted from their findings and gave the skeptics a field day.

The report and the video however may interest some scientists into looking into the matter. Our group out here is looking forward to that day and we have an area that would make a very good research study area. It shouldn’t take a couple of wildlife biologists more than a month in the field to collect enough evidence to convince anyone about the species existence. My best,

Mr. Joshua: are the sophomoric comments really necessary?

    aitforce47:

I heard Dr. Ketchum say on the coast interview that there was/is a Phd wildlife biologist on the team, who, handling everything with gloves, collected the saliva samples by gluing very fine sand paper to sterile paper plates, the food was set out on those plates, and as soon as it was eaten, the plates were collected and placed into plastic bags and put into a freezer. I thought that was cool to hear her say how they got those saliva samples. As to whether or not this whole thing is all true etc, I don’t know, but it sure is interesting, and regardless, it seems like she has devoted a number of years to this. I was also wondering how she got involved in the first place, and last night on the interview with Linda Howe she said two groups sent samples to her lab years ago, she was a big skeptic, but those samples piqued her interest. I just thought the history was interesting to hear. I also thought “what is this ladies background?” I found this interesting too, again I guess one could fake a bio, but, I believe what’s on here, however, I am certainly no expert, just someone who is enjoying this…and this may be redundant info as I am sure the people really going after her have researched all of this much more thoroughly. 🙂

    From her bio:

“Dr. Ketchum has established a research program ranging from gene mapping to developing the VeriSNP™ (patent pending) platform for universal genetic evaluation in multiple species of animals. Other research includes genetics of disease, population genetics and other genetically important traits such as coat color in animals. Dr. Ketchum is a past three-term Chairperson of the International Society for Animal Genetics Equine Genetics Standing Committee. She has also been Dog Map Chairperson and a Committee member on the Dog and Cat Parentage Committee. She is a former Treasurer for AFDAA, The Association of DNA Analysts and Administrators. She aided in the analysis of the DNA sequences from the World Trade Center Disaster.”

With all the hoopla going on, I just thought I should find out more. Interesting stuff:)
