American Paranormal: Bigfoot

Join a team of experts as they use advanced scientific analysis to investigate the phenomenon to reveal what’s science, and what’s science fiction. Follow along as we break down one of the most controversial pieces of evidence… a 40-year-old film that many believe is actual video of the apelike being.

Airs tonight at 7 PM and 10 PM Central on Nat Geo TV.

And for those that don’t have this channel, how do we see this? Does anyone know if the full thing is available on line or on DVD?

  2. MountDesertIslander responds:

I am such a sucker for these shows. I even switched away from a great football game to watch American Paranormal: Bigfoot.

My impression of the show is that it came off very pro-existence of Bigfoot. That struck me as a bit odd. Most of these shows start off as very sceptical and sceptic heavy. I felt as if the program may have been too much of an advocate for the Patterson-Gimlin film. It was nice to see that the producers were able to secure the use of the first generation original footage.

After all the years of listening to debates about the film the most compelling arguement in favor of authenticity remains the enhancements of the opening and closing mouth. I wish that aspect could have been explored with the use of this first generation film.

The amount of time and effort that was put into the 3D rendering of the creature using laser imagers and the motion capturing technology was underwhelming. I had seen better on other programs.

    I’d give this program a solid ‘B’.

im watching it in 7 minutes! 🙂

I liked this show much better than ” Is it Real”, which was rather smarmy in it’s presentation. This show seemed to take the subject matter much more seriously than it’s predecessor. All in all I would say it tasted much better than chicken.

  5. Ragnar responds:

I enjoy these kinds of shows, but have a little nitpick or suggestion.

At one point they were doing hair analysis and noted that there are several/numerous hair samples out there and that they haven’t been matched to any known animal. So I would like to know if anyone has matched the hair samples to each other. Meaning, if they are the same (or nearly so) it might be significant.

  6. Valen responds:

I was quite surprised by this show myself. As MountDesertIslander mentioned, most of their shows are heavily weighted against whatever they are covering being real (such as their show “Is It Real” where they deem whatever it is not real). I thought they gave the Patterson-Gimlin film a pretty fair evaluation and treated Jeff Meldrum and his theories with respect.

  7. cryptidsrus responds:

I was also pleasantly surprised to find it “Pro-Sasquatch,” as MountDesertIslander put it. NG’s shows of this kind usually are slanted into the “No Scientific Proof,” and “Show Me Evidence” type. So it was a breath of fresh air that they were more open to it than usual. And Meldrum, as usual, was great.

  8. loopstheloop responds:

Anybody know where I can see a bit of this online?

Or any other excellent related documentaries online?

  9. Craig Woolheater responds:

Luke from MN and loopstheloop, watch the entire episode here on Cryptomundo at American Paranormal: Bigfoot.
