Bigfoot Sighting In Banff National Park – Sasquatch? Yeti?

This video, taken from a tour boat in Banff’s Lake Minnewanka, has some interesting footage of what appears to be a Sasquatch or “Bigfoot” lurking on the shoreline.banfflakelouise2

    Dr. Zeus!

  2. Mr. Elekom responds:

I think some one should go on the tour and see if it shows up again. It could be that the tour company hired someone to do that. but that again it could be the real deal.

    Puh-leeeeeeeeeze. . . .

  4. tropicalwolf responds:

Looks SUPER fake! It looks right into the camera…really??? Probably a viral video hoax or promo. Looks kind of like the one alien from the original Star Trek series.

  5. mosritemecha responds:

Why is it cut the way it is if it’s real? At no point does the camera pan from the inside of the boat to the “bigfoot” on the shore. Every time we see it, it’s after a cut. How come, when we see footage of the shore without the subject in view, the camera is steady, and it’s suddenly shaky when we can see it? Gonna have to give this one a big fat no.

  6. jhw1701 responds:

That just screams guy in a bulky suit.

  7. wanderingman responds:

There was some discussion on this video on BigfootForums. According to someone there who had spoken to the creator of the video, it was just a prank. May have also been used as a viral marketing video for “The Dancing Sasquatch” bar.

  8. PhotoExpert responds:

    LOL!!!

Sorry, for laughing. I am sure the person that posted this probably had the best of intentions. However, it is cleary not a BF lurking on the shoreline. It looks like a person in hooded raingear. Or it could be a hoaxster in a poorly made BF costume. The point is, unless BF is wearing clothing, this is not a BF. If you pause the video at 1:14, you will get a profile shot of something that is obviously not a BF but a human wearing clothing.

Besides the obvious point of the subject looking like a clothed person, the movement of the subject is definitely human. The proportionality of the limbs, the stride, the movements, all scream human being.

Thirdly, the commentator saying there is no way a person could get to that place is incorrect. We only see a small segment of video and another small boat is passing at that point. If one small boat is caught in frame for that short period of time, I am certain that there is a lot of boat traffic taking place. You mean to tell me that there is no way a small boat could drop someone off. LOL There are plenty of ways to get a person on that beach.

Fourthly and lastly, because I don’t want to waste a lot of time on something obvious, the question is, what is a person doing on that beach. Well, perhaps his buddy dropped him off to do some camping. Maybe he was doing some fishing and did not have the required licenses. The sound of an approaching boat would have an illegal fisherman dropping his rod and heading for cover. You don’t want to get caught without a license while fishing by the police or DNR type agency. Or maybe he was just a boater that needed to relieve himself. His buddies may have dropped him off and he is waiting for them to come back and pick him up. Hmmm, maybe that is why the other small boat we see in frames of the video is so close to shore.

My opinion, a human subject! No BF here! The good news is, it appears as if the videographer was not trying to intentionally deceive viewers like most BF videos posted on YouTube. I can’t read into other people’s intentions, but fakery on the part of the videographer does not seem to be the case here.

    Enough said!

I received an email yesterday from a source saying the video was shot by a Jeff Mitchell. Apparently he was behind the prank.

A CNN reporter, canuck66, also uploaded this video to their site. A CNN producer note there states:

“canuck66” works with local tourism promotion and often shares stories from the region. He says a friend made this video and arranged to have someone wear a Sasquatch suit as the boat went by, adding that no one (including the tour guide) was in on this prank. – nsaidi, CNN iReport producer

I would agree this event falls squarely in the realm of “prank” and not “hoax,” as the perpetrators were quick to admit they were behind it.

This video, taken from a tour boat in Banff’s Lake Minnewanka

    I couldn’t have picked a better location 🙂

  11. MattBille responds:

You know, when it looks fake even when filmed from such a distance, you know you’ve rented the world’s worst sasquatch costume.

  12. Kopite responds:

Doesn’t look to me like somebody in a sasquatch suit. If so why make it a buff colour? I’ll take the ‘hoax/prank’ claims with a pinch of salt. It looks far more like buff coloured waterproof clothing or fisherman’s gear than any furry suit.

  14. Paul78 responds:

Loving the British Innuendo of the Lake name! lol

  15. hudgeliberal responds:

I can’t believe this was even considered by anyone to be real, sick of this kind of s###! Everytime something like this happens it just diminishes the chances of anyone ever believing a real sighting. Sigh.

  16. DWA responds:

Paul78: Actually, one very strong piece of evidence that the sasquatch is a real animal is that whenever people describe male sasquatch coughendowmentcough, they don’t describe King Kong, which is what you’d expect given popular fantasies about apes, but Minnewanka. 😉

As to the video: one thing that’s pretty shoddy about that costume, I would guess, is pockets. The “figure” seems to have dropped its car keys.

  17. Cass_of_MPLS responds:

“Minnewanka” is a Nakota word meaning “Water of the Spirits” (“Haunted Lake”).

  18. Cass_of_MPLS responds:

Might add that early European visitors to the area called it “Demon Lake” for much the same reason.

    There are strange things seen
    In those waters green
    And on the shore adjoining
    Where the spirits roam
    And the demons moan
And none spend the night there willing

    “Ancient tales they tell
    Of the THINGS from Hell
That rise from those noisome deeps
    And the eldritch rites
    Done on Full Moon Nights
To placate the Death that Creeps.”

    —From an Ancient Rhyme
    (That I just made up),
