Unless the evidence that will be accepted for the reward is specific they will never have to give the reward.
The use of the term "Irrefutable evidence" is problematic, Irrefutable means "Impossible to deny or disprove".

No evidence is impossible to deny, all it takes is one close minded ignorant individual to turn her nose up at the corpse in the center of the room, and bingo, someone just denied the evidence you get no money!

So I don't think this program will do the research any good, and may help the skeptics in denying Bigfoots existence.
An ignorant skeptic could then say "They offered a 10 million dollar reward, and there was still no evidence!"

I think we would all like to see the endeavor of locating the world's most popular cryptid take a more scientific approach versus one that is so sensational. I think that is the biggest frustration I am seeing in these posts. I would have very few qualms about "Finding Bigfoot" and shows like this if they dedicated all 12 episodes to a single region in the Pacific Northwest and stuck to baiting/trail cams vs fireworks and crying baby dolls. If this new show does turn out to be worse than "Finding Bigfoot" than we truly have taken a step back.

muircertach:

Well, your first sentence is absolutely spot on.

What I don't understand is your second paragraph.

"Fanatical devotion to a possibility" and requesting attention to evidence are two different things. True belief is always rejected by anyone who understands how science works.

Ignorance of the evidence is never open-minded. Or if it is, well, that's what they mean by so much so that your brains fall out.

That doesn't change no matter the field.

Ploughboy: what I really wanted to say.

And what I meant by "better than FB" being worse. In terms of the objective, incentive trumps ratings. In terms of how the objective is accomplished....well, I'd rather have a sasquatch hitch a ride with Ranae. And the likelihood of that is greater than the likelihood of FB succeeding in any other fashion, except for ratings, which of course mean nothing unless you're bankrolling the show.

But indeed. That anyone would even do this - seen "Shoot a Centaur" lately? - is all the proof anyone should need of the failure of mainstream science on this question.

Somebody is paying attention to the evidence.

And it's still almost exclusively the wrong people.

I can not imagine why legitimate scientists/biologists would be hesitant to investigate this further.

This is a fairly tame site with regards to comments. Yet the fanatical devotion to a possibility and the total rejection of anything but a true belief is sad. There are not as many open minds here as one might think.

So, given that we already have extensive evidence of this animal...film, tracks, hair, scat, eyewitness accounts in the thousands....what, exactly, will "prove" this to the so-called "panel of experts?" We can safely assume that this show is putting a bounty on hide, bone and body of as Sasquatch. That is what I find so repugnant about this idea.

But, when science abdicates its responsibility for pushing the boundaries of human knowledge, we should not be surprised of outcomes like this.

Not ideal but I am glad this subject is getting mainstream attention. Lets not cast judgement until the show has aired and we know all the players. If all teams concentrate on a location (ie Vancouver Island) this could yield results. It would also be a step up from running around Rhode Island with torches trying to stir a Bigfoot like some other attention seekers.
